The origin of Camp Good Grief

Most of us are familiar with the scene from the Peanuts cartoon strip in which the character Charlie Brown utters the words “Good Grief!” as he lands flat on his back. He has just attempted, once again, to kick the football Lucy has snatched away at the last minute.

With the blessings and approval of Charles Schulz, the creator of the Charlie Brown cartoon, the name “Camp Good Grief” was born.

This October 2006, Camp Good Grief will be celebrating it’s 11th anniversary. Camp Good Grief started in 1995 as a one-day camp.

The demand quickly grew and we created a three-day weekend camp.It was determined that the experience of a more intense & longer weekend camp, with additional therapeutic activities was more beneficial to the children than scattered counseling sessions.

As the community, schools and civic organizations learned of our services, it became apparent that more camps were needed. We are now offering three camps per school year and also a reunion camp for campers and camp volunteers to reunite in the Summer.

Over the past 11 years several thousand children have benefited from this program.
